About the Van Laar Instrument Models

Van Laar Bb Trumpets:

Van Laar B4 Bb Trumpet
Van Laar B4 Bb Trumpet

Van Laar B1 Bb Trumpet:

The B1 has a lightweight bell and lightweight valve cluster. The sound is compact, with good projection and a bright sound with a fine sizzle in the high register. With its light response and great flexibility, one might call the B1 the “gem” of our collection.

  • ML bore, 11.7 mm (0.461″)
  • Lightweight valves
  • One-piece hand-hammered bell, bell material brass, bell diameter 122 mm (4.807″)

Van Laar B2 Bb Trumpet:

The B2 has the same specifications as the B1, but with a wider bell which results in a warm timbre when played softly. Thus the instrument is suitable for all types of ensembles and musical styles.

  • ML bore, 11.7 mm (0.461″)
  • Lightweight valves
  • One-piece hand-hammered bell, bell material brass, bell diameter 122 mm (4.807″)

Van Laar B3 Bb Trumpet:

This new model was released in 2011.

  • ML bore, 11.7 mm (0.461″)
  • Standard weight valves
  • One-piece hand-hammered bell, bell material brass / gold brass, bell diameter 135 mm

Van Laar B4 Bb Trumpet:

The B4 was developed on the basis of the Bach Mount Vernon trumpet. Fundamental to the rich sound is a standard bell with a normal-weight valve cluster. Unlike the original instrument, the B4 is distinguished by its improved slotting and lighter intonation. This is a reliable all-rounder for all kinds of music-making.

  • ML bore, 11.7 mm (0.461″)
  • Standard weight valves
  • One-piece hand-hammered bell, bell material brass, bell diameter 122 mm (4.807″)

Van Laar B5 Bb Trumpet:

The B5 is also of standard-weight material. Its bell with a more conical taper allows for greater sound projection and imparts a somewhat dark and warm sound. In the upper register the timbre is brilliant and voluminous without sounding strident.

  • ML bore, 11.7 mm (0.461″)
  • Standard weight valves
  • One-piece hand-hammered bell, bell material brass / gold brass, bell diameter 122 mm (4.807″)

Van Laar B6 Trumpet:

The B6 is a newly developed trumpet with a brass bell and standard weight valves. Its characteristics are: an open sound, light response and a good projection.

  • ML bore, 11.7 mm (0.461″)
  • Reversed leadpipe
  • Standard weight valves
  • One-piece hand-hammered bell, bell material brass, bell diameter 122 mm (4.807″)

Van Laar B7 Bb Trumpet:

The B7 is a true all-rounder. Its low wind resistance and light intonation invite the player to juggle with the air flow and to experiment with the sound. This instrument opens up an almost unbounded spectrum of dynamics and timbres to trumpeters of a robust constitution.

  • ML bore, 11.7 mm (0.461″)
  • Standard weight valves
  • One-piece hand-hammered bell, bell material brass, bell diameter 122 mm (4.807″)

Van Laar® Quartertone Trumpet

The latest addition to our range of trumpets is the Van Laar® Quartertone Bb trumpet, which is not only used for playing Arabian music but also contemporary and jazz music. The quartertone is obtained by depressing a special, welded-on valve using either the little finger of the right hand or the index finger of the left hand.

  • ML bore, 11.7 mm (0.461″)
  • Standard weight valves
  • One-piece hand-hammered bell, bell material brass, bell diameter 135 mm (5,314″)

Van Laar® trumpet Chuck Findley ‘Signature’

“My signature model Van Laar trumpet has the perfect resistance I need to
play in a big band, but also has the warmth needed for a small group or soloing on a film call.” Chuck Findley

  • ML bore 11.7 mm (0.461″)
  • Lightweight valves
  • One-piece hand-hammered bell, bell material brass, bell diameter 122 mm (4.807″)

Van Laar® trumpet Bob Findley ‘Signature’

“Hub and I worked very hard over the last couple of years on my signature model trumpet and came up with a real winner. Because of the nature of the film work I do here in Hollywood I’m called on to play all styles of music. Including Jazz, Orchestral, Chamber, Big band, Etc. with the added challenge of not knowing, when I leave the house in the morning, what the day holds. Only rarely am I told what the music that day will be, just what studio and when. I like this part of my business because it keeps me on my toes, but it means, since I don’t feel comfortable changing horns for the task at hand, that I must have an instrument that makes all this possible. Hub has made that instrument for me. The horn, I know, has made me a better player. Do yourself a favor and give it a try.” Bob Findley

  • ML bore 11.7 mm (0.461″)
  • Standard-weight valves
  • One-piece hand-hammered bell, bell material brass, bell diameter 122 mm (4.807″)

Van Laar® OIRAM I Bb trumpet

The OIRAM is our heaviest trumpet. Thanks to the finely balanced distribution of weight, this instrument is a delight to hold and can be played for a long time without discomfort. As a result of its excellent slotting, the sound can be varied to range from dark and smoky to bright and clear. Due to its universality, the OIRAM can be used in combo playing, in harmony work or as a lead instrument. Like the OIRAM flugelhorn, the OIRAM trumpet was designed by the Belgian architect Mario Garzaniti.

  • ML bore 11.7 mm (0.461″)
  • Heavyweight valves
  • One-piece hand-hammered bell, bell material brass / gold brass, bell diameter 135 mm (5.319″)

Van Laar® OIRAM II Bb trumpet

The OIRAM II has a very broad sound spectrum and an immense projection. And what is more: it is easy to play. This superb designer instrument is suitable for classical music, pop and jazz. Like the OIRAM flugelhorn, the OIRAM trumpet is designed by the Belgian architect Mario Garzaniti.

  • ML bore 11.7 mm (0.461”)

Van Laar Oiram Flugelhorn

Flugelhorns are versatile instruments, adapting to the style of musician. They sound warm and provide an excellent intonation. Their appearance is stable and robust.

Flugelhorns are available in the following finishes:

  • brushed or polished brass
  • glossy silver-plated
  • brushed or glossy gold-plated

A 3rd valve slide trigger is standard and heavy valve caps are optional.

Van Laar® Flugelhorn B1

With its small brass bell, the B1 flugelhorn offers a warm, compact sound. It stands out for its easy intonation and flexibility in the formation of tone. Because of this, a player can attain his personal conception of timbre

  • Bore 10.5 mm (0,413″)
  • Standard weight valves
  • One-piece hand-hammered bell, bell material brass, bell diameter 150 mm (5,906″)

Van Laar® Flugelhorn B2

The B2 is similar to the B1 but has a different conical taper and a bell made of gold brass. The result is a somewhat warmer sound, which is lean and transparent in all registers.

  • Bore, 10.5 mm (0,413″)
  • Standard weight valves
  • One-piece hand-hammered bell, bell material gold brass, bell diameter 152 mm (5,984″)

Van Laar® Flugelhorn B3

A warm, cloudy sound is characteristic for the B3 flugelhorn. Because of its large bell (160 mm), the tone is full, round and expansive. In the low and middle register (the latter is particularly important for a flugelhorn) it is distinguished by a wealth of overtones and colourful sound spectrum. The notes engage well, and are quick and easy to find.

  • Bore, 10.5 mm (0,413″)
  • Standard weight valves
  • One-piece hand-hammered bell, bell material gold brass, bell diameter 160 mm (6,299″)

Van Laar® Flugelhorn OIRAM Fresu

Like the OIRAM trumpet, the OIRAM flugelhorn was designed by the Belgian architect Mario Garzaniti. It is constructed with a very large bell, a heavy valve unit and curved slides, which guarantee very light wind resistance. The sound in the middle register is cloudy and smoky, but it can be augmented to achieve great power in the top register.

  • Bore, 10.5 mm (0,413″)
  • Heavy weight valves
  • One-piece hand-hammered bell, bell material gold brass, bell diameter 160 mm (6,299″)

Van Laar® Flugelhorn OIRAM Ack

This instrument, with its flexible sound, intonation and projection, was developed in close cooperation with Ack van Rooyen. As was the case with our OIRAM trumpets and OIRAM flugelhorn, the present instrument was designed by the Belgian architect Mario Garzaniti. The new conical taper and the curved slides guarantee a light response. The sound is full and can be augmented to achieve great power in the top register. This flugelhorn was specially developed so that it can be clearly heard without a microphone while never losing its special flugelhorn sound.

  • Bore 10.5 mm (0,413″)
  • Heavy weight valves
  • One-piece hand-hammered bell, bell material brass, bell diameter 155 mm (6,102″)

Van Laar® Flugelhorn BR3

A warm, cloudy sound is characteristic for the BR3 flugelhorn. Because of its large bell (160 mm), the tone is full, round and expansive. In the low and middle register (the latter is particularly important for a flugelhorn) it is distinguished by a wealth of overtones and colourful sound spectrum. The notes engage well, and are quick and easy to find. The rounded design gives a completely new feel as regards wind resistance.

  • Bore, 10.5 mm (0,413″)
  • Standard weight valves
  • One-piece hand-hammered bell, bell material gold brass, bell diameter 160 mm (6,299″)
