About Jeff Purtle

purtle2Jeff Purtle is the author of Hit it Hard & Wish it Well and is best known for being a protégé of and authority on Claude Gordon. He has also written for The Brass Herald magazine, the ITG, and has been cited in various doctoral thesis. Jeff’s students are from all walks of life and consist of professional musicians, amateurs, college students and younger, all sharing the common goal of getting the most from their practice. In 2004 Jeff became a pioneer in teaching online. Jeff’s private studio reaches students from six continents weekly. Jeff was adjunct professor at Clemson University for five years and is currently at Anderson University in Anderson, South Carolina.

Jeff Purtle has performed with Dionne Warwick, Rita Coolidge, RhythJeff Purtlem & Brass, Sandi Patty, Reggie & Ladye Love Smith, Christopher Parkening, Jubilant Sykes, Wayne Bergeron, and Byron Stripling.  Solo performances by Jeff have been featured on SC Carolina Concerts, SC ETV Radio YourDay, German radio – Koln Westdeutscher Rundfunk, and with the Brentwood-Westwood Symphony, Downey Symphony, Spartanburg Philharmonic, Hendersonville Symphony, and Greater Anderson Music Arts Consortium.

Jeff Purtle was a long time student of Claude Gordon and spent many years assisting him at brass conferences. He is one of very few that has been certified by Claude Gordon to teach his system and has dedicated many years collecting notes and videos for this book. Hit It Hard And Wish It Well is a culmination of his life’s association with Claude and takes an already great approach for trumpet to an even higher level.
